This thread contains information for users that intend to install APPro firmware on Atheros AR531x-based devices.

This software requires purchasing a license.

Currently APPro5003v2 is available on following devices:

    • AirLive WLA-5000AP v2 or v3;
    • Wistron RDAA81;
    • CA8-4;
    • CA8-pro;
    • Ubiquiti WISP Station5 ;
    • Ubiquiti Lite Station5;
    • Ubiquiti Nanostation5;
    • Ubiquiti Nanostation loco5;
    • Ubiquiti Picostation5;
    • Ubiquiti Bullet5.

To purchase an APPro5003v2 licence, you need to complete following steps:

    1. Making an order and a payment, verification of access to the license generator.
    2. Installing firmware in a device.
    3. Generating license file and installing it in a device.

1. Making an order and a payment, verification of access to the license generator.

Payment for the licence should be made as indicated below. Data required to log on to the generator are send via e-mail to an address given in the order form. This e-mail is send only after payment transaction is completed.

After receiving e-mail, we recommend to log on to the generator system and verify whether the number of available licenses is consistent with placed order. In case of any discrepancies, they will be resolved via e-mail exchange.

2. Installing firmware in a device.

Devices compatible with RDAA81, CA8-4, CA8-pro, and WLA-5000AP

To install APPro5003v2 firmware, download appropriate installation file, and install it in a device as a normal upgrade, via device's Web page.

• for Ovislink AirLive WLA-5000AP download file appro5003v2-install-ovislink5000.bin
• for Wistron RDAA81, CA8-4, and CA8-pro, download file appro5003v2-install-rdaa81.bin

for Ubiquiti-compatible devices
UBNT devices offer faster, TFTP-based installation method. Please DO NOT install the firmware via Web interface.

    • download installation file: XS5.ar2313.appro5003v2.tftp
    • configure your computer with the IP address 192.168.1.100
    • press and hold Reset button in Ubiquiti device, and then power on the device
    • after about 10 seconds release Reset button
    • using TFTP client send downloaded file to IP address 192.168.1.20 (in windows: tftp -i 192.168.1.20 PUT XS5.ar2313.appro5003v2.tftp, linux: tftp -v -m binary 192.168.1.20 -c put XS5.ar2313.appro5003v2.tftp
    • after about 2-3 minutes device's LEDs will stop blinking, and the installation will be complete

After successful APPro5003v2 installation device is available with default configuration:

    • IP Address: 192.168.100.252
    • login: admin
    • password: admin

After successful installation we recommend upgrading to the latest available firmware release.

Further updates of APPro5003v2 firmware should be made with appropriate page of Web interface and standard APPro5000/5003 upgrade files.

3. Generating license file and installing it in a device.

In a first step you need to find registration data of the device.

    • configure your computer to IP address 192.168.100.10, and log on to the device using Web browser (type address http://192.168.100.252/);
    • enter 'admin' as both username and password;
    • locate strings of characters that begin with "Hardware ID" and "WLAN MAC".

Next, in a separate browser window, open a Web page with license generator.

    • open new browser window and type address of the generator, as in an e-mail you received;
    • you will be asked for username and password - enter login data from the e-mail;
    • in the generator window select a license type you need, and type owner's data (company, name, address, e-mail);
    • on device's Web page select characters shown after "Hardware ID:", then right-click that selection and select Copy from menu;
    • on generator's Web page right-click "Hardware ID:" field, and select Paste from menu; make sure that pasted data contains no spaces or other characters that are'n part of identifier string; example of correct identifier: 17-9b-[...]-0f-85
    • repeat two previous steps for "WLAN MAC" fields;
    • click on Generate Licence button; your browser should download a license file; if download process did not start, (for example, browser has blocked this operation), you can download license file by clicking on a Download generated license: link;
    • od device's Web page click on 'Choose File' button, and navigate to the file downloaded in previous step;
    • Click 'Upload licence' button;
    • if operation completes successfully, after restart APP5003v2 software will begin normal operation.

4. Selecting a hardware type in APPro5003v2 firmware.

APPro5003 firmware can be used on multiple hardware platforms that differ in minor details. To ensure proper software operation and access to all available features for your device, you need to manually select hardware model on page: OTHER-> System Settings -> Hardware Platform.

5. Reverting to manufacturer's firmware of Ubiquiti devices.

To re-install factory firmware on UBNT hardware, just install it via TFTP - the same way, as you installed APPro firmware. More detailed information and the firmware is available on hardware manufacturer's web page.

Wysłany: 2008-10-01, 16:48   Ovislink WLA-5000AP

Hi,

I'm interested to try APPro, however I a little bit confused about the JTAG pin-out for my Ovislink WLA-5000AP.

I know the pins lay out on my Ovislink WLA-5000AP which is :

Populated serial on JP1

VCC = +3.3V

1 JP1
VCC - []
()
TX - ()
()
RX - ()
GND - ()

* baud: 115200
* 8 bit, 1 stop bit
* No parity

However, since I'm a newbie, I don;t know the pins lay out for the other end of cable Which is DB 25 cable.

Can you describe the DB25 pin lay out for connecting the JP1 on WLA-5000AP?

Much appreciated & Sorry for my bad english

This is not a JTAG, but serial connector. DB25 pinout is easy to google-out: http://www.aggsoft.com/rs...cable/RS232.htm

However, do not connect these pins directly!!!
Your AP uses TTL voltage levels (0 V/+3.3V), where on DB25 connectors you have +12 V/-12 V. When you connect these ports directly, you are likely to damage your AP. In short, you need TTL/RS-232 voltage converter, which can be easily assembled. We use converters based on low-voltage version of MAX 232 chip.

Another thing is that APPro 5000 is not supported on WLA-5000 v1 (one which doesn't have "V2" or "V3" on a sticker). Early model has some hardware issue with the chipset, and the workaround makes the firmware slow.

Oh, and there's another thing. Now you do not need to use serial console to install APPro5000. Our firmware can be uploaded as a standard OvisLink or Wistron firmware (we will make this firmware available in few days, so do not download it yet). But you will still need a license file (and it is not free).

So I need to use MAX232 serial level converer like this :

http://sodoityourself.com...level-converter

When I look the article, there will this option in WLA-5000AP :

============================================
AR2313 Boot Loader Interface
V1.03e00 2006-1-02 (zImage)
============================================
Please choose the operation:
1: Load system code to SDRAM via TFTP.
2: Load system code then write to Flash via TFTP.
3: Boot system code via Flash.
4: Load calibration data then write to Flash via XModem.
3 seconds time out

Why the option show the upload firmware is via TFTP/LAN.
Is this mean that I only can upload the firmware via LAN TFTP Interface? and the RS-232 connection is only for command menu?
Is there any way to upload the firmware via RS-232 directly?

Looking forward to try the firmware.

PS: My WLA-5000AP is V2 board version

Yes, serial interface is for commands/messages only. Firmware is uploaded via LAN (or WLAN if you use Web interface). But please remember that our firmware will not work without a license. And currently we do not have have free/demo licenses.
